What sway measures
Sway is side-to-side movement relative to the golfer’s address position. Sportsbox sets the value to zero at address and measures movement in inches.
Movement toward the target is positive. Movement away from the target is negative. Chest sway and pelvis sway track the centers of those segments throughout the swing.
Begin with the full movement
A single frame can show where a segment is. The Tracker shows how it arrived there.
Follow chest sway and pelvis sway through the backswing, transition, and downswing. Look for when each segment changes direction, how the movement develops, and whether the pattern supports the coaching question you started with.
Avoid labeling all lateral movement as the same fault. The amount, direction, segment, and timing all matter to the interpretation.
Compare chest and pelvis movement
Chest and pelvis can move independently toward or away from the target. Comparing both Trackers can reveal whether the golfer’s upper and lower body are organizing differently through a phase of the swing.
Sportsbox also defines Sway Gap as the horizontal distance between the chest and pelvis centers. When that measurement is relevant, use it to describe their relationship rather than treating either segment in isolation.
Choose one Indicator for the intervention
After reading the full Trackers, select a swing event that matches the lesson goal. An Indicator at the top, during transition, or at impact can create a clear baseline.
Apply the cue or drill, record another swing, and compare the same measurement at the same event. Keep the discussion connected to the golfer’s ball flight and movement—not merely whether the number moved.
